Fluid Structures were engaged to act as facade Engineers for the Reiss building in Barrett Street and were instrumental in the design of the double facade with an external acrylic cladding system fixed back with bespoke restraints. Such wide spread use of acrylic was unprecedented in the UK and required the solution of a number of technically challenging issues. These included the thermal expansion of the material, the design of fixings which would restrain the material but allow vertical movement. In addition issue such as UV degradation and the fire rating of the facade needed to be addressed.
