The project illustrates a glass staircase that was installed in a contemporary Indian Restaurant in East London. The laminated glass treads needed to be designed to support restaurant loading and the glass treads were bonded to the steel strings to minimise cost and maintain a minimalist aesthetic.
The surface of the glass treads was sand blasted to obscure the passage of diners using the stair but maintain the sense of drama in this space.
The riser gap was closed to Building Regulation standards by inserting a solid acrylic rod between the treads which passed through a hole in the strings and was secured in place with silicone / glue.
